We are thrilled to have this beautiful body-off restored Land Cruiser FJ40 in our collection. In 1972 the car left the factory in Japan and was delivered to its first owner in Fresno, California, in 1973. The documentation is available. That is where the current owner found the car in 2015 and from where he imported it to the Netherlands. In the Netherlands the Toyota has been fully restored. The owner’s main goal in this was to rebuild this desirable FJ40 with components that make it especially pleasant to drive and at the same time leave the ravishing classic FJ40 exterior unspoiled.
The original 6-cylinder engine has been overhauled, fitted with an LPG installation and some advanced features have been add; like for example an electronic ignition. It goes without saying that the chassis has been stripped to bare metal, treated and rebuilt with new mounting material. The original 3-speed gearbox has been replaced by one with 4-speeds so that it is possible to drive at lower rpms and more quietly. The bodywork has been repainted in the original colour Sahara Beige. Beautiful details such as the original PTO (Power Take Off) winch on the front bumper have been saved. The dashboard features an electronic instrument panel from Dakota Digital, USA, so that all engine functions can be monitored precisely and reliably. In order to be able to fully enjoy the drive, Volvo V70 front seats with leather upholstery and seat heating were fitted for extra comfort and safety. The good news is, that – for those who find this too much – the original seats come with the car. The same goes for the wheels; luckily the striking original steel wheels with chrome caps come with the car, because the mounted sturdy off-road wheels might not be everyone’s cup of tea. Since the hardtop is removable the FJ40 allows an open-air driving experience and for an even bigger ‘wind in your face’ feeling the windshield can be folded down. With its flat engine torque, the four-wheel drive, the low and high gearing and the free wheeling hubs the Land Cruiser has a reputation being able to cope with any terrain. This Toyota, however, has not seen any rough terrain since its restoration, the owner could not find it in his heart to take it off-road. The requirement to undergo a yearly APK inspection (Dutch MOT) will expire for this Land Cruiser in 2023.
