The Porsche 914
This mid-engined two-seater is also known as the VW Porsche. The cooperation between Porsche and Volkswagen resulted in the launch of a new entry-level model for Porsche – the 914 – in 1969. The designers wanted a sports car with various exclusive features but at a lower starting price than the 911. And exclusive, this car definitely is.
Remarkable, for example, is the generous space inside the car. It is the effect of a special design featuring an extraordinary long wheelbase in relation to the total length of the car. Extra space is generated with the targa-top made from glass fibre reinforced plastic which can be stowed away in the boot in no time, so that the driver can enjoy the outside air even more. Apart from that, with an open top the characteristic sound of the four-cylinder mid-engine, which has been placed directly behind the seats, is even more enjoyable.
The 914 was launched with the 1.7 litre flat-four engine from Volkswagen. This engine was later followed by the 2.0 flat engine, a significantly improved upgrade of the 1.7. Especially increasing power from 80 hp to 96 hp was not only pleasant but also benefitted the sporty character of the car. As befits a flat engine it produces a very pleasant sound, which also ensures that the car will be clearly recognized already from afar. With a lot of pleasure it starts to growl and invites the driver to step on the gas even harder.
This specific car
This Porsche 914 is equipped with the improved 2.0 flat-engine. It was originally registered in Grand Rapids in the United States. The “birth certificate” issued at that time is still part of the exceptionally complete documentation. When the previous owner saw this unique 914 in a small village in the US he immediately fell in love with its nice appearance. From 1975 to 2016 the car stayed with its first owner. Eventually in 2016 the car was brought to The Netherlands. The complete export documentation and photographs from when the car was found are still existing.
You will not find a Porsche 914 that is more beautiful than this one. The unique condition of this car ensures that it belongs to a very select group. The Porsche Centre Leusden has spared no expense to bring the car into a perfect state. This is evident from the comprehensive valuation report and, again, all invoices are still existing. The car is both technically and visually in a perfect condition. The Schwarz colour and the PORSCHE lettering on both sides becomes the model very well. The plaid seat fabric in the colour bright-red tartan is a perfect contrast to the black exterior. The interior as well speaks volumes about the general condition of the car. It’s one of a kind.
