It is by far one of the fastest and most beautiful production cars of the ‘50s: the extremely rare, brilliantly renovated and 100% original Jaguar XK 150 3.4 S Roadster from 1958! As icing on the cake the historic Open Two Seater – OTS in short – is also a price winner at the Concours d’Elegance 2019. And not without reason!

The cosmetic and technical condition of this (sublimely) driving classic car, father of the so-called “super-class” cars, has been brought to the highest level. Furthermore, this Jaguar is one of the unique “S” models with matching numbers and matching colours.
A true collector’s item! The professional jury of THE international old-timer event in The Netherlands confirmed this as well; at Soestdijk Palace the Jaguar XK 150 S was officially announced as “First in Class” in the category “50’s Gentlemen & Sports Cars”!

History

This extraordinarily beautiful Jaguar belongs to the first of XK 150 series and was produced in a very limited number. The car was a special order by Hilton La Bow, the owner of a copper mine in Balmat, New York State. It is one of the few cars that had the Close ratio transmission and the Powerlock differential installed ex-factory.

This XK 150S was a real barn find and was discovered in completely intact condition in New York State in 2013. Rehabilitation was the following step taken. The XK150S was completely renovated to the highest possible standards, front to back, inside and outside. In this process no efforts or expenses were spared. Since the restoration the car has not been driven more than 100 test kilometres. This explains the outstanding condition of the car, which its new owner will tremendously benefit from. The complete documentation is of course available and the authenticity fully verifiable.

Interior / Exterior

Also due to its perfect restoration, the beauty of this Old English White car is of immeasurable value. This Jaguar is a born classic car and proves to be world-class in every detail; from the characteristic wire wheels to the chrome rear bumpers with integrated blinkers, vents in the side of the front wing panels, the illuminated Jaguar badge indicating the years in which a Jaguar came across the finish line first at the 24-hours of Le Mans. For insiders, with the very first ‘S’ models the ‘S’ badges were delivered separately and mounted by the dealer which explains why in these cases they sit on the side of the car instead of in the usual place at the top of the doors.

Getting into the car goes hand in hand with a big smile. The redone beautiful leather upholstery is impeccable. The perfectly finished red and white dashboard and the 4 spoke steering wheel sprayed in black radiate pure nostalgia and timeless perfection.

Technology

In the XK 150 3.4 S all the highlights of racing in the ‘50s come together. The 3.4 litre 6-cylinder in-line engine in the front is a further development of the racing engines with which Jaguar has been victorious in automotive sports so many times. In fact, the famous XK engine played a big part in the 5 victories booked at Le Mans. All 5 championships cars had been fitted with it.

In this specific model the engine has a power of 250 HP, which is astronomical compared to “normal streetcars” of that time and equals the power of the Ferrari 250 GT and the Mercedes-Benz 300SL “ Gullwing”. The combination of sky-high performance levels with an extraordinary charming ‘Open Two Seater’ configuration ensures that the XK150 S Roadster is one of the most desirable and collectible Jaguars ever.
