The 612 Scaglietti
With the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti the prestigious Italian manufacturer continues its long tradition of 12-cylinder 4-seater grand tourers. Admittedly you cannot expect too much from the four seats but if really necessary four adults can sit in the car. The 612 was launched in 2004 as the successor of the gorgeous Ferrari 456M GT. The designers had been asked to draw a car with both space for four people and a big boot; apart from that it had to be practical. All these characteristics should be realized without spoiling the iconic Ferrari design. The designers of Pininfarine did know what to do and the spacious 612 Scaglietti with its classy appearance and the elegant curves was born; a car with a particularly long bonnet and flowing lines which are sloping towards the rear of the car. The distinctive scallops and the headlamps seem to originate straight from the one-off 375MM Speciale that became famous because the Swedish actress Ingrid Bergman got one from her husband, Roberto Rosselini, as a gift. Ferrari named the 612 “Scaglietti” as a tribute to Sergio Scaglietti, the famous coachbuilder from Maranello who produced countless aluminium bodies for Ferrari.
Nothing less than 12 cylinders, an engine capacity of 5.7 litres and an output of 540 hp becoming available at an amazing 7,250 rpm was acceptable. The engine power was enough to catapult the car to 100km/h in 4.2 seconds and then effortlessly accelerate to a top speed of 320 km/h. Apart from the 6-speed manual transmission available for the purists, drivers who preferred a little more comfort could choose the F1A transmission with a robotized gearbox that either shifts automatically or can be operated with the paddles on the steering wheel.
This specific car
In 2008 the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti received its most important modifications. The OTO stands for the One-to-One programme which allows the buyer to completely personalize the car. Given the type of car, the price and the numbers to be sold, it was quite a smart move to send customers straight to this programme. For the OTO programme customers were flown in to the factory in Maranello or New York, where they could choose from all colour samples and leather types. This Ferrari 612 has the beautiful colour Canna di Fucile which is a perfect match with the interior colour Iroki. Everything in the car is covered with luxurious leather; the heated and electrically adjustable sport seats, the steering wheel, the dashboard, the centre console, door panels, window pillars, even the hat shelf. The OTO version is also technically different. The Superfast Robotic F1 transmission had been improved significantly thanks to the new dual-disc clutch. The electrochromic glass roof and a Manettino dial on the steering wheel were standard features. The 20” Challenge rims and the Brembo ceramic brakes complete the picture. The extraordinary low mileage and the excellent visual and technical condition make this one of the most desirable Ferrari 612’s ever sold. This Italian thoroughbred sports car was first delivered to its Dutch owner living in Switzerland in 2008. It was then sold to Kroymans in The Netherlands where its last owner bought it. The car has always been carefully serviced there and recently, at 40,000 kilometres, a major service was carried out during which the timing belts were replaced.
