Amilcar was a French car manufacturer in Saint-Denis, a suburb of Paris, which produced cars from 1921 to 1939. The name is an incomplete anagram of the surnames of the company’s founders, Joseph Lamy and Émile Akar. The brand has become famous because of its smaller cars. Amilcar is often referred to as “the poor man’s Bugatti” and there actually are some important similarities like for example the sporty exterior and the low weight of the cars. Just like the Bugatti the Amilcar offers a lot of driving pleasure because of its light weight. The Amilcar CGS was the most successful car of the French company. Most cars were sold as a two-seater with a sporty bodywork, at an extra cost made from aluminium, that encouraged owners tot take part in local competitions.
This Amilcar CGS left the company in 1923 and was delivered to a French customer. The distinct bodywork and wings in the colour “France Bleu” combined with a bare aluminium bonnet and a beige leather interior give this Amilcar the characteristic look that only French sports cars of that era have. The “Carte Grise”, the French car registration document, dates from 1982 and is still with the car. From 1982 tot 2014 the car had only one owner. Around 2000 it was restored to its original glory and after the restoration had been completed the CGS was driven only sparingly and was regularly serviced. This beautiful Amilcar is in a very good condition with a wonderful “vintage” patina. The four-cylinder in-line engine with its 1,097 cc delivers an astonishing 40 hp, which was extremely high in 1923. The high performance in combination with the low weight made the CGS a real sports car. This car has fantastic original details, which make it very attractive. Every ride will be impressive and surprising. It is astonishing that nearly a century ago, it was already possible to produce a Roadster with so much light-footedness and driving pleasure.
